Note on Names of Welsh Mines
The naming of Welsh mines is a difficult subject as there is no consistency in spelling.
Some names are written with English Spelling ( e.g. Level ) but also the Welsh spelling may be used (e.g. Lefel )
or even a combination ( Level Fawr ).
During the main historical period of working the mines were controlled by English companies and the names reported to shareholders and to Journals such as Mining Journal were often very poor attempts at writing Welsh names.
Much difficulty is also caused by frequent re-naming of sites.
