Clun Engine House NGR SN 931 873 (View
OS Map for location)
The Welsh Mines Preservation Trust has been awarded a 100% grant of £38,000 by Cadw for conservation work on the Engine House at Pen-y-Clun, near Llanidloes, Powys. There is also the possibility of a further grant being available for work on the leaning chimney following a structural survey. The contractor started work late 2005, but prior to the conservation work, the Trust held two working weekends to clear undergrowth, turf and soil that has accumulated over the years. The work restored the original ground level and uncovered stone and bricks required by the builder in addition to generally tidying up the site. |
|
| Several outbuildings and the remains of what was once a fine engine house (blown-up by the Forestry Commission in the 1960's) can be found at the site of this former copper mine. Several 'working weekends' have resulted in the conservation of buildings and structures, plus many other previously unknown features have been revealed. | |
