Welsh Mines Society Cymdeithas Mwyngloddiau Cymru

As to the programme of events, this was as follows:

• Saturday, 20^th September - Met at 10:30 a.m. at the Nag's Head, which can be found on the A488, midway between Pontesford and Pontesbury, at NGR SJ 405 061 (View OS Map)  for a visit to Pontesford Collieries Engine Houses and Smelting Works.  After lunch a walk was taken round Snailbeach mine, where several of the old mine buildings were open for inspection, (a collection being made for Trust funds) and some members took a short trip into the Day Level, to see the Engine Shaft.  The Lords Hill area was explored, after which some members took a brief trip into Perkins Level.  The walk was continued along the old railway line to Crows Nest and back past the most recent remains of the dressing plant.  Finally a short drive was taken to view the scant remains of Bog Mine.

Some members spent the whole time exploring the upper workings at Snailbeach, (accessed via Perkins Level, exploring down to The Forty Yard level), involving SRT, ably led by members of the SC&MC. (For more info on snailbeach visit ....  http://www.ap.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/sbeach/sbeach.htm)

• Saturday Evening - Dinner at the Dolforwyn Hall Hotel. Menu   Discussions were held regarding the impending insurance problems.

• Sunday 21^st September - Met at 10:30 a.m. by the A488, at NGR SO 319 980 (View OS Map), by courtesy of Mr. J. Delves.  Walk over West, East, and Old Grit mines, by courtesy of Messrs. Delves and M. Pope where fine engine houses were to be found.

In the afternoon, we met on the old dumps of East Roman Gravels mine, on the east side of the A 488, NGR SJ 336 004 (View OS Map), by courtesy of Mr. A. Gough.  A walk being taken over East Roman Gravels (Wood Sett) and Roman Gravels.
An alternative underground trip into Huglith mine was available for those with the necessary SRT experience.
